Founded in 1963, Shangri-La continues to be a dynamic leader in the communities it supports. Shangri-La’s main office is in Salem, Oregon, but the organization’s work spans a seven-county region in the Willamette Valley and central Oregon coast. Programs are focused on providing daily living supports, job and life skills training, clinical services, employment supports and enrichment opportunities.

We are currently seeking a dynamic, visionary leader to join our team of approximately 600 employees as Chief Executive Officer.

The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) is responsible for guiding the strategic direction of the organization and enhancing the organization’s internal processes and infrastructure in a way that will allow for further growth and advanced mission fulfillment.


  • Bachelor’s degree
  • 10-15 years experience in program management including:
    • Development
    • Fundraising
    • Personnel management of multiple sites
    • Budgeting
  • Must possess the poise and skills needed to serve as the face of the organization and build lasting relationships that maximize mission effectiveness
  • Demonstrated competencies including:
    • Strategic thinking and scanning
    • Change management
    • Masterful execution
    • Culture development
    • Business acumen
    • Visionary and adaptive leadership
    • Ability to build trust, motivation and optimism within a diverse organization
  • General office skills including Microsoft Office
  • Ability to be approved through the DHS Background Check Unit (CRIMS)
  • Possess an Oregon driver’s license and have an acceptable driving record.

Position is salaried exempt. The CEO is expected to carry out the duties of the position at any time, as events may require a varied schedule, unpredictable hours and unanticipated tasks. Position requires overnight travel and day trips as necessary amongst the Oregon service locations throughout the Willamette Valley and central Oregon coast. Work usually occurs in an office setting.

Starting salary: $108,000.00 to $130,000.00 annually depending on education and experience. Benefits include options for comprehensive group medical coverage with a HRA wrapper which funds approved max out-of-pocket costs for medical coverage. Dental coverage options, supplemental insurance through Colonial, and a generous paid leave and sick leave benefit are also offered. Shangri-La is an Oregon Saves participating employer.
