Shangri-La's Housing Assistance Program funds approximately 19 scattered-site permanent housing units annually of varied size and location to unaccompanied disabled adults, couples without children, and families with children. The populations served are facing multiple barriers, including disabilities, to access safe and appropriate housing. These barriers, in addition to their disability, may include one or more of the following: mental illness, substance abuse, criminal history, inadequate job skills, lack of education, abusive home environments, poor rental history, bad credit, or lack of previous rental experience and/or credit history. Due to these barriers and disabilities, all of the clients enrolled in the project are in need of a safe living environment with the necessary support services to assist them in obtaining and maintaining housing, and remaining self-sufficient in the community. Referrals to this program must be made through a case management program.
